Oh, it gets even better. A few minutes into that video, he talks about how a hacking group called The Dark Overlord stole secret documents that reveal the truth about 9/11 and are threatening to dump them. This is even bigger than Snowden's NSA leaks.

5:15 it's a 'smart' fucking nightmare.

This shit has to be rejected at all costs...

We need a full scale, mass 'smart' device ABANDONMENT.

It's all leading up to a mass abandonment of 'smart' devices...

Yeah I just had to make those points before I continued watching the vid...

It's huge mate, huge.

I wonder if that's what was in the Laura Bush envelope. It would explain everyone's reaction.

Exactly like I said.

The other thing I hate about practically all Web forum software is how the search engine is almost always useless. They all have this elaborate "advanced search" page with way too many options, and it still can't find something that Goolag can find in less than a second by typing "site:example.com whatever you're looking for".

It tries being all things to everyone, and ends up being nothing to nobody.

I don't want to have to check a dozen boxes to narrow the search down to the bits I'm interested in, so the mailboxes, alerts, and bookmarks will each have its own little search engine that has one job and does it well.

Yeah using these out of the box softwares, you have to figure out how to maximum the effectiveness of what you've got to work with.

Well, just the mailboxes and bookmarks. Alerts don't have too long of a shelf life. They've pretty much outlived their usefulness as soon as you've read them. The alerts box will have a "Clear" button to delete all of the old alerts.

Not just out-of-the-box forums. FC was custom software, and the longest running joke in the board's history was "Fix the search, Pud." They still trot that one out after several generations of custom spinoff boards.

I don't think it's really the fault of the forum software developers. They all use MySQL's full text search functionality, which can be difficult to use effectively.

A good search engine is a massive project in itself. There are very flexible open source packages available that can be customized, but you'd really need a development team with a full time specialist to work on that. Some guy writing a free program at home in his underwear probably ain't gonna have time for it.

Things that should go without saying...

But what about sites that aren't hosted in America?

I guess it's all editable.

Wow, that's awesome dude!!!

Yep. I'm making everything easy to edit by a sysop with modest skills. The idea is to lower the bar to having a cool website.

Thanks, but you deserve much of the credit, as some of the points were taken from your suggestions.

Not to mention I wouldn't be doing this in the first place if you hadn't inspired me. If anyone else had suggested that I write yet another forum program, I would've told them where to stick it.

Sorry, I'm still laughing at the unintentional Stephen King reference over here.

The first layer of the Dark Overlord documents has been unlocked.

Here's a rough sketch of the profile page template.

The profile page will have the profiled user's theme colors, not the visitor's theme colors.
Nice... that's how it should be.
