Google & Facebook: Reign Of Internet's "Ad Duopoly" Headed Toward A Momentous Demise

I mean how long can a fad like buying a new $1000 phone every year continue? It's not all that impressive if everybody does it. shrug

Total oversaturation...

If my 10 year old nephew has an iPhone...

It's over.

LOL! I'm sorry but, ROFL!

It's totally over.

And I'm glad to see it go, honestly.

I experienced the height of the "iPhone Cult" fad like a year ago and saw the writing on the wall then...

I thought it was mildly hilarious, but at the same time, it was disconcerting to be pointing out everything wrong with the product and no one seeming to grasp what a big issue it actually is.

They're basically done for.

The future of computers even for private use will necessitate smarter users. People have been dumbed down by the ease of Apple, particularly over the last 5 years.

What's coming will separate the wheat from the chaff, and again, it's people like you and me who will be totally fine.

To us, it's like the good ol' days again. Only now we're older, and we're still smarter than everyone else...

Which is unpleasant because we know dumb people get angry a lot because being dumb is frustrating.

They'll look at us breezing through the changes and actually having a lot of fun, while they run into nothing but obstacles they have no idea how to tackle whilst using their devices.

They'll learn the hard way, or they'll fucking give up on the internet... hopefully the latter, LMAO, let's be honest.

And if I sound like I'm sporting an elitist attitude, it's because I don't give a fuck anymore... I'm sick of everyone using and taking everything for granted. Fuck 'em all.
God made me funky...
And I'm glad He blessed me that way.

Alex Becker explains why social media isn't really a good way to grow a business.

Fuck Yeah

I would say you're not, but I'm obviously biased since "computing" in my day automatically implied understanding computers.

Oh this is gonna be a GOOD one...

Popcorn

Right off the bat I can tell this guy is hella smart and incredibly free thinking.

I've never heard of basically any of these people you've linked to on this thread!

It's been really enriching.

4:40 loool.

Yeah he's so right, it's true.

This video confirms most of the things I've suspected.

There's nothing greater than somebody with experience speaking on this.

Brilliant stuff so far.

6:53 beautiful... ah God I'd like to hug this guy right now, God bless him.

7:35 I SOMEWHAT disagree with him on this. Fame in this internet paradigm = views, essentially. That's a numbers game. Out of those numbers, there are going to be people who buy whatever you're selling. Yeah it may not make you a jillionaire, but I think it's pretty obvious that it will make you SOMETHING. I'm sure he's going to explain his point though.

11:31 so true.

13:16 LOL awwwe. Come on now, some people wanna speak at events for reasons that don't have much to do with this shit... tunnel vision on money/results alone isn't "creating"... it's just being obsessed with money.

14:27 it's true.

15:55 fuck yeah, amen, this guy is awesome.

16:50 okay here's the thing...

I am guilty of this, massively guilty of "putting deep thought into" what kinda underwear, or whatever. I analyze these internet people because they've put their lives out there and made them public. They're entertaining, it's fun, it's interesting, it's often hilarious. It's a good time! I love analyzing people. I love writing about it all. I think it's monumentally entertaining. Am I a scourge to the internet because of it? Probably. Should people expect to put their lives out there to the public and NOT have people like me examine them? No. LOL. I mean... I'd be sorry for being the type of person he describes, except... I'm not sorry. And I'm not the worst either. At the end of the day, I don't watch people just to shit talk them. I watch them to point out things and be honest about it... because on some level, I think it can be helpful. That's what I've always done, in one form or another... now it's just mostly people on YouTube who are the subjects of my analysis.

17:25 yep, he's absolutely right.

Great video, damn you know what, this makes me even more glad I deleted my YouTube account!!! LOL :)

I'd love to put deep thought into what kind of underwear you're wearing, but you can't be bothered to wear any. Sad Nana

Dude I enjoy bantering with you back and forth...

But I would not want your money even if you were a millionaire. Or a billionaire.

If you donated to me and I knew it was you...

It would be refunded no matter what the sum.

Not trying to be a douche but...

Yeah.

I know. We've already been down that road. lol

I appreciate you hosting this forum on your own dime and not complaining about how much you spend on it. I used to run anonymous free speech forums, and I know what a drag it is to deal with the trolls and defacers and other assorted fuckwits. That's why I don't do it anymore.

I do wish other people were more interested in starting their own websites though, whether it be a forum or some other kind of site. None of these social media sites would've gotten powerful enough to push everyone around if people had been doing that all along.

Well I believe we have to set an example. People don't have any examples of personal websites being run and being super fun.

We'll see!

That's the reason example.com exists. Nobody except Tim Berners-Lee had ever seen a website in 1991, so they created an example site.

LOL

There are plenty of examples out there now, but it doesn't occur to people to look for anything outside of social media and a few major corporate sites.

In the West, the public square is controlled by 5 corporations.

In China, the public square is controlled by an authoritarian government.

In both cases, Goolag has its dirty fingers in the pie.

The 2010s have no distinctive cultural zeitgeist, thanks to social media.

Twenty years from now, people won't wax nostalgic for this decade as they have for decades past. There won't be anything for companies to package and promote to aging millennials that will uniquely evoke fond memories of their youth.

Social media? Nope. It'll still be around.

Mobile communication devices? Nope. Not exclusively a 2010s phenomenon either.

Monotonous AutoTuned music that even the young folks admit is dogshit compared to the 70s and 80s? Kill me now.

How many people will tell their grandchildren about the time they were swept up in a batshit moral panic and beat up "nazis" at a free speech rally?

Facepalm
