Retrowave is a good sign.

It's just a good sign.

It gives me hope.

It's unquantifiable, inexplicable...

But it's there.

My worst fear with retrowave is that somebody is gonna start singing and totally fuck it all up.

There are SOOO few people who are qualified to sing on retrowave.

So few.

Countless retrowave songs have been completely ruined by vocals.

It's best not to have any vocals.

The best thing if you don't have a qualified singer with that genuine super retro voice is to just use soundbites and clips.

A few well placed clips can really send shit over the edge.

So much safer than fucking the song up with actual lyrics.

Unless you're Kristine or Adam McNab or Denys Parker, you really just have no business singing on retrowave.

You gotta have that retro VIBE.

Very few people capable of it, very few.

Over halfway through and nothing sucks.

This one looks promising, I dig the Maiden/Mother/Crone symbolism in the title.

8. Mono Memory - Spectrum 31:47 see it's songs like this that skirt that fine line between fucking SUCK and fucking EPIC. Perfectly skirted, well done!!! Could have so easily been a disaster, but they pulled it off!!!

I think I've taught some retrowave artists what kind of vibe to go for...

I'm not trying to take credit for anybody's epic artistic direction, but I'm just saying.

I think they've been paying attention to what we the people of retrowaveland really enjoy.

I'm a little over halfway through, but so far not a single suckass track.

The advice I would give about retrowave would be, don't try anything too funky just to be "different"...

Don't listen to people who say retrowave all sounds the same or any of that kinda shit.

Don't try to make it too "different" by throwing in some super weird element.

I'm not necessarily saying play it safe...

But if it's between trying something funky that has the chance of making an otherwise excellent song totally skipworthy...

It's better to play it safe and put out something mediocre rather than something regrettable, all because you were trying to 'strike out' into some new territory out of fear of songs sounding too similar.

This is strictly talking about retrowave... doesn't really apply to other music, where just the opposite might be true.

Something I really appreciate about retrowave is the guitar element...

Big guitar was a hallmark of the 80s.

I've been impressed by the kind of guitar work they've been able to incorporate into retrowave so well.
