"4K" is all the craze today...

Well I think it's dumb as a box of shit.

I don't even like regular HD.

http://www.sectual.com/thread-2479.html

It just keeps ramping up and up and up.

It's all a huge downgrade from classic film anyway...

Quote:Chemical film used for almost all older movies, particularly super 35 mm film gave a resolution that went well beyond 4k and all the way into 8k territory, but up until the last few years, the technology to actually display these features has not existed.

All this digital crap is so limiting and it's all such a GIMMICK.

I resent it.

Digital tech is a slow incremental installment of all the shit we had before, like "8K" classic film.

For $1200 an iPhone, you can have the latest purposely capped technology until they release a newer version next year.

What a load of motherfucking bullshit!!!

Fuck these fucking bastards!!!

The reason I prefer film is because the actresses had very smooth looking skin. In digital movies, you can see every pore and bump in their faces. It kind of ruins the fantasy when they look like any jane you see on the street.

Aww you´re really up in arms over this Big Grin On my 27" I like movies and tv shows in 1080p but above that you need a much larger screen to see a difference. About the Iphone... Meh I have an old Samsung core that was like 120 bucks. Just the basic android stuff no bullshit. The camera sucks balls but I don´t take photos anyway.

Are you deliberately misconstruing what I said, or did you not understand? Pores and zits are fine in real life, but I watch movies for a momentary escape from reality. Period. Not for political or moral indoctrination, and not to be reminded how crappy life is. For pure entertainment. If that's too much to ask for, then Hollywood can find another sap.

My husband is going to buy a 4k tv, I keep telling him we don't need it because we don't watch much tv at all. I'm the only one that watches tv and I don't even watch it, just background noise for when I feel lonely, which isn't often, maybe twice a month.

I'm using my TV as a computer monitor. That's 95% of my TV use right there. The rest is watching DVDs and Laserdiscs. Laserdisc is equivalent to 480p in modern terms. No need for the extra resolution.

Back in the day (pre-2004) this site was THE PLACE to get HUGE pics of these classic actresses...

Remember that movie Somewhere in Time with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour? It's about a guy who time travels back to 1912 to meet a beautiful actress. The premise of how he accomplished it was pretty interesting. Instead of a high tech time machine, he immersed himself in turn of the century surroundings and did an astral projection. It would be so cool to do that and meet Alice White.

You are so right. 4k movies look like shit compared to film movies. Some stuff is cool at 4k, but it really is mostly a waste.

It's not just a matter of film vs. digital either. The characters had real depth in the old movies. They're pretty glib and shallow nowadays. What's with all the friggin' superhero movies? They look like video games. Comic books and video games are what 4K is made for. Two hours of nonstop smash-em-up CGI rubbish. When Christopher Reeve played Superman, he didn't demolish half of NYC to catch the villain, fer piss sakes.

4k is for PCs and gaming. the extra desktop room is awesome for productivity.

tv and movie tech is incrementing unevenly.

things like HDR make an enormous difference in person. color is artwork, just grabbin a 4k camera and expecting magic isn't gonna work. old film cameras were a veteran tech with people who knew how to use them. the new stuff is still new and unmastered.

it's also jarring going from old movies / tv to new stuff. old stuff was shot at 24 frames per second. new stuff is 60/120.

rather pointless imo to keep incrementing 2d flat displays, aside from more PC desktop space. 3D 360° holographic displays are the future. 2d stuff will be for overlays in wearable glasses/contacts.
rhombus will set you free

The HDR side on that thumbnail looks like shit in comparison to the Blue-ray, literally can't see shit.
