Why does Pew do that uglyass browser check before it even loads??

They’ll completely fail.

Not to be 100% off topic and totally negative or anything...

BitChute does the same kinda thing...

Are these wannabe YT alternatives purposely trying to miserably fail?

Is YouTube making these sites themselves just to take the piss?

Dunno. I could see Cloudflare doing one browser check when you first hit the site. But every five page views?

Granted I have only visited Pew like a handful of times...

But every time, on the desktop, on the mobile device...

I ALWAYS see the freaking browser check.

I'm sorry but... people just don't understand what the fuck that MEANS.

When the average internet user comes across something like that, they immediately think "OMG, this doesn't look normal, I'm suspicious of this site"...

Seriously.

It weirds people out and makes them not wanna use the site.

I of all people know and agree that creating a YouTube alternative is a necessary and important goal...

But for fuck's sake...

Do it right y'all.

In fact, regarding PewTube...

I have never even waited to get past that stupid loading screen until just now...

And what I see is a complete and utter disappointment.

Pew shit talks Google as a whole right out of the gate on their front page...

It reminds me of Hatreon.

These "alternatives" are doing it so grievously wrong it's sad...

And SURPRISING that they have gotten ANYONE along the likes of Styx or anybody else with actual clout to USE their platform.

Building your business model around how much the other guy sucks is a recipe for total failure...

The YouTube alternatives should come along pretending that YOUTUBE DOESN'T EVEN FUCKING EXIST.

And ESPECIALLY not tying YouTube to the bigger entity of Google...

This is all basic psychology, honest to God it really is.

And I just ask myself, how the fuck can people who obviously are able to afford the bandwidth to run a site like that honestly dumb enough to make these mistakes?

That was one thing VidMe did right... it didn't have a competition attitude, it brought its own shtick to the table and it was a good one. They were just too pansy.

But yeah... the whole thing honestly makes me wonder if YouTube isn't just launching these total fail "alternative" sites just to troll people.

Yeah but it's like...

Clearly your site is DOOMED to fucking FAIL when it's based off ANOTHER SITE.

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE SEEN THAT KINDA SHIT FAIL!?

1. Is your site's domain a play on another site's domain? Fail.

2. Did you purposely make your site look like another site? Fail.

3. Are essentially finger-wagging at another site which may or may not be 7 billion times bigger than your site? Fail.

4. Are you defaming another website? Fail.

5. Are you referencing another website at all? Fail. You can't build your site around references to ANOTHER SITE, e.g., shit slamming Google on the front page, naming your site Hatreon in a negativity fueled attempt to shit talk Patreon.

Stop wasting valuable fucking time with these totally doomed to fail attempts and MAKE A REAL ATTEMPT.

This. It's a safe bet it's their own money too because Silly Valley VCs aren't going to invest in a right-wing echo chamber.

I had a lot of gripes about VidMe's site design too, but its saving grace was that the comment sections worked correctly, with each reply being properly nested under the comment it was replying to.

What we need is really just a video dump site that hosts videos for embedding in people's own personal sites. No community, no algorithms, no political line to toe. Let the users do all that shit on their own sites.

Hell. Yes.

I was thinking something along these lines earlier.

When there's a community aspect to it, everything just eventually goes to shit because evil fucks like Google buy it and warp it to suit their agenda.

Community needs to be in the individuals' hands. And we need to get back to a time when people operate their own websites instead of being dumped into these internet ghettos like Farcebook, having no ambition whatsoever to have their own platform.

I have a web host and a couple of domain names. I don't really do anything with them except dump shit there for hosting. I do all of my personal dev work on a Raspberry Pi and push it to Github now. Sort of got burnt out on doing Web stuff and started messing with embedded systems that don't need a Web interface. I could probably do an invitation-only video hosting site as long as the storage and bandwidth usage didn't get out of hand. No fancy editing or format conversion stuff. Just log in, upload, and copy the embed code.

I'd like to see a video hosting site not break the aforementioned rules, and only host vid at 480p or lower...

That would be great. HD is stupid anyway.

Yeah, if I do it, it'll definitely be limited to 480p. If you want HD, watch television. LOL
