It's actually not a new concept for me at all...
I have been doing this since before YouTube existed, and back when cell phones didn't even take videos, shit they may not have even had cameras yet!!!
When I was about 12/13 or so, I made a series of very funny videos (on an old school 90s camcorder), one of which was an interview with myself. That's when I found out that I actually am really good at pretending like I'm another person on video.
I made a VHS of those videos (because the camcorder used small tapes, I had to put it on a big tape for the VCR) and sent it to my friend in Canada who thought it was just the funniest thing ever. I'm sure she had all her friends over to watch the crazy American/Kentucky girl talking to herself.
I hope maybe she still has that VHS somewhere in a dusty old box... all mine died in a fire.

My birth was filmed on camera and I remember watching it when I was a little kid. I thought it was really interesting and special. I remember there was one instance where my brother and his friend was over... they were probably like 13 at the oldest, and they were watching the tape. ROFL! My brother probably said something to his friend like, "I bet you've never seen any shit like this before!" The birth tape was kinda like a party trick. So my bro put it in the VCR and he and his friend are like "Whoooaaa!" lmfao and they started critiquing everything. It was so funny.
Of all the shit I've lost, that birth tape really does make me sad.
And there were other home video tapes that were very special as well. Things I'll always remember, but it's sad that I'll never see them again. It just fades and dies with us all.

To be fair, I think some of the boxes the newer videos were in did survive, but they probably got wet or covered in soot.
I had some fun times in my childhood... legendary family vacations, etc.
There were a lot of fun times.

The most recent thing that made me remember how I love duplicating myself on film was this music video I made yesterday...
It was edited together out of footage from 2018, and it was wild to see this footage. 2018 was a tremendously horrible year for me in many ways.
I was feelin' pretty low, feelin' pretty sad and bad...
So when this footage was recorded, at the time, I was just trying to get a couple decent photos of my new hairstyle.
My method of taking photos is actually just taking video and making screencaps out of it.
So all my modeling and photoshoots are actually videos...
I'm sure when I recorded that stuff in 2018, I didn't think I'd want to look at it again because all the pain of that year was so fresh.
But I'll be darned, it's nice what a little time can do, and now I see the footage and think first of all, how was this almost 3 years ago??
And then I think, hey, I love you Annie.

It's weird to look at yourself alongside yourself though.
VERY weird.
How can I explain this??
So I refer to what I do with my music videos as a "creative collaboration with the universe", meaning one thing leads to another and eventually your footage hits that magic spot where it synches up with things... like a "Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz" effect.
Eventually you're into the project pretty deep to the point where it's a bunch of random cuts not in any particular order, and nothing is intentionally placed...
That's when the magic happens and the imagery synches up perfectly with the song.
When it's video of yourself alongside yourself, you see the same kind of thing happen, where at a certain point, you start to vaguely look like 2 different people with 2 different personalities (or a pair of hot twins) and the "two yous" in the footage start to look at each other and react to each other. No shit. And none of it was done intentionally.
While I was working on this music video, I came to the conclusion that time is an illusion and maybe on some subconscious, psychic level, I knew it was going to look like I was dancing with myself. There were other things that suggested that this mix of footage was meant to be put together. For example, I was using a very pretty stars twinkling/space graphic for this video, just a piece of looped footage I've had for a while... and there were parts where the stars twinkling lined up with my face in totally uncanny, perfect ways and I just don't see that being coincidence. There's something to it all.

That is so fucking classic. It's like a scene out of a John Hughs film, but better. Sorry to hear the tape has disappeared. I often wonder about that. All the missing videos and photos from our past... I can understand the nostalgia and the bittersweetness of being able to recall it but not possess it again. Maybe there's something to consciousness not really being linear that can be gleaned from it. I don't know. Letting go is easily the hardest thing to do in this human context. I know we've talked about that before... a few times actually... that it often feels like the meaning of life is to let go. Ugh.
Attachments are like an iron grip on our heart.

You're not alone in that.

(Cheesy Matthew McConaughey voice) "Heard."
I understand consummately. Grok'ing very hard over here.

You're entering the fray of your creative prowess, which is like direct imprinting onto the fabric of universal intelligence; your intuition, subconscious, all of your creative and spiritual faculties are pumping in unison...
Being in that space is the best feeling. It's life.
you're an artist.

My destiny was to be one of those chicks in an '80s music video...
I was born too late.
But I can still try my best.
