I think its also people in areas where the upload speed is shit and they see its gonna take 10 hours to upload the video so they just click shorts.
Some I have seen have uploaded a short video then re uploaded it normally later.
One example of this is videos from Ukraine where areas have slow internet or none at all.
If you click on search by upload date newest its crap loads of shorts but if you bookmark the channel and go back later they have removed the short and uploaded the proper version. This is what ive found anyway.
there are a lot of videos that are padded out to ~10 minutes for the ad spots which could easily be reduced to a succinct under a minute video. i think there's value in that.

They started out several months ago being grouped separately on people's YT page as "Shorts"
like how they get grouped as "Uploads" or "Playlists" but they played like regular videos when you
clicked on them. Not like this new retarded ass tiktok bullshit format. This is only a couple weeks
old and it totally fucking sucks!! You can't save them to playlists like before!! So there goes all the
kittie cat videos that come out that are less than a minute in duration. They better be working on
a fix for that shit!! Fucking idiots!!
And by fix I mean GET RID OF THE STUPID FUCKING SHORTS FUNCTION!!
OK, so I guess you can opt out of the "Shorts" video category because here's
a 0:09 second clip that shows up as AND plays like a normal video.
So we figured out that the criteria your video has to have to be automatically sorted into the "Shorts" category is that it has to be filmed in vertical format. So it's basically a smartphone specific issue, and it's when those videos are filmed in vertical format, rather than filmed in horizontal format.
Always hold your smartphone horizontally to capture a widescreen video in order to avoid your short video being automatically sorted into the "Shorts" category by YouTube.

I think you figured it out.
Considering youtube is trying to change things on your end desktop wise these days quality sound size its probably auto in the app.
I don't use the app get a camera they are cheap and small.
I freaking *hate* it when I accidentally click on the "Shorts" tab on the YT homepage and some loud, stupid shit automatically starts playing.
Well you can put a thing in firefox but it doesn't work that well
I avoid add-ons. Ad-Block is the only one I trust.
