Gliese 581 in constellation Libra will receive "A Message From Earth" sometime in 2029. Sent in 2008, the message will have taken 21 years to arrive.

The best we can ever hope for is to receive radio transmissions from distant worlds, just like the ones we've sent out.

Beaming signals is pretty much the only way we can actually communicate with distant worlds, at least physically.

Interdimensional stuff is another matter, whole other ballgame. I don't consider interdimensional beings "aliens"... to me, aliens are strictly physical lifeforms on other planets.

It seems like the only entities we've been in contact with so far are these freaky interdimensionals who apparently give all kinds of advanced tech secrets to "researchers" who trip on DMT (and do worse) to communicate with them...
