Quote:The earliest true record of domestication comes from a cat that was found deliberately buried with its owner in a grave in Cyprus, some 9500 years ago, and it is assumed that domestication will have begun some time before this as there were no native cats on Cyprus.

My question is...

Did the cat die WITH the owner?? Did they kill the cat just to bury it with the owner?? Did the cat die at a later time and then was buried with the owner??

catloverfung

I gave my cat (I didn't want my daughter forced me to have her.) To other people who wanted a cat, cat people.
I couldn't look after my cat at the time. I think if I died I would want other people to take care of my cat.
Not kill my cat to bury with me. I think I will see my cat again we didn't get along but she was a loving cat although aggressive at times.

fungncats

Sorry didn't answer your question, they probably killed the cat. Egyptians did it.
Big Sad Nana
Glad you re-homed the cat to a good place, Fung, that is the only right thing to do.

I definitely would not have any indoor pets again.

I discussed this awhile back...

"I think it's morally wrong to keep pets indoors, and I propose a solution"

Originally ran across the OP article cuz I was trying to figure out if small domesticated cats actually did come from "big cats" a long time ago... you know, like lions and tigers and the lot.
Can't seem to find a straight answer.
Quote:The Felidae family continued to evolve and branch off into different common ancestors until 3.4 million years ago when the Felis genus appeared. This group includes the wildcat (Felis silvestis), the jungle cat (Felis chaus) and our own domestic cats (Felis catus).

So I guess they did come from basically the same place millions of years ago.

I dunno why this answer doesn't satisfy me at fucking all...

Any ideas??
Come on guys, I'm the Chatwoman, I have a vested personal interest in this...

nod
I guess it's the same way I feel about the explanation for all the different types of humans...

The "official story" doesn't really explain things.

I agree she was initially an indoor cat due to morons here letting there un desexed cats out all night.
There is a curfew on that now big fines but there wasn't then.
Then she wanted to go outside and so I let her.
But then she got confused to pee in her boxes or outside and these boy cats un desexed from moron people kept coming and annoying her.
So I gave her to these nice cat people and they loved her and when they picked her up she purred and looked at me and understood.
I never wanted another animal since my dog died but I was kind of forced to have her cos of my stupid daughter.
But I enjoyed my time with Misty. She will be still running around somewhere doing something crazy kitty.

Hominids we are hominids, we made up the term human from our fucked up ego's.
Did you ever pay attention to me once, watch the documentary "world war chimp".
Its not planet of the apes, but I think that is where they got it from cos it is real.

The answer is this, cats are never really tame, cats can fuck you up if they want.
They live with you cos they choose to. (I threw misty out once and she rocked up next day being all nice and meowing).
There is big cats who will eat you cos you are just food (they know nothing else they are just hungry).

Animal psychologists have proven in peer reviewed studies, that domestic cats think of us hominids, as large docile non threatening other cats.
Where they can live with safely and secure food.
Egyptian pharoes used to hold gold rings on their tails hence the glyphs showing cats.

Felines are smarter than us fancy ego maniac Monkeys.
Even birds are. What more do you want to know?

Wow...

I dunno if I 100% believe that just cuz I'm suspicious of anything that 'science' says.

Just sorta seems like they're underestimating cat intelligence.

Surely to God they know we're not cats, just as the same as we know we're not armadillos or something.

Super intriguing, I had to look this up...

Quote:Egyptians believed cats were magical creatures, capable of bringing good luck to the people who housed them. To honor these treasured pets, wealthy families dressed them in jewels and fed them treats fit for royalty. Cats were so special that those who killed them, even by accident, were sentenced to death.

Awww, that's so sweet. So it's a relief to hear that they PROBABLY didn't kill the cats just to bury them with their owner, lol.

Seems a little more likely that cats were held in such high esteem that they buried them with the owner later on down the line, even though this seems like "disturbing" a grave, I guess it wouldn't been seen that way if they loved their pets that much.

They killed slaves and concubines to bury with the master back in those days, so they probably killed the poor, innocent kitty too. Sad Nana

On that note, y'all can kill Fungus to bury with me when I croak, If you really want to.

I don't think you will croak you have a lot of life left in you Angel.
I know the bunghole problems and I wish I could fix them for you, but that is one thing I can't fix.
Can fix most things though just not that.

And instead of killing me and burying me with you, I would just like to be there and kiss your pretty head while you pass.
You tearing me up here lady  Huh2

Now lil miss pixie trixie. If that is who you are.
Yes im fucking the shit up can't reply to a forum post properly so eat my naccas!
Don't believe in science 100% go do your own research you will find they did a very long study on cats.
And they do think of us as huge docile safe other cats where they can reside and be protected and get food without being eaten themselves.
You know an owl will just grab a feral cat and once its got it, its done. Not to mention other predators.
In the ancient days what do you think cavemen ate when they couldn't take down a mammoth?
Cats do not trust us hominids, they just see we don't want them as food anymore (unlike the chings maybe).
I hope you watched world war chimp you will understand some things from that documentary.
Depends on how the cat has been treated. A cat that hasn't been abused will approach a human if it senses them to be friendly.

They have different personalities like us hominids.
Personality archetypes.
