this was part of the   wars between  Europe and Turkish empire . these dudes were mercenaries from Belgium hired by the Habsburgs to fight the turks .  Apparently they didn't like  fighting the turks  so they tried to mutiny

That's not a human face/head... looks like a skeleton, or a reptilian or something.
