It's my experience that animals tend to seem startled when they cut a fart.
Like they don't know about the process or understand what it is, so they don't ever think about it or expect it.
This line of thought came up for me just a few mins. ago while I was watching a YouTube video of this super pretty chick. She was being all serious and I really started to wonder how she reacts when she farts. Does she thinks it's funny? I usually think it's pretty funny when I'm alone and stuff.
Then I started remembering all the animals I've ever seen fart and how confused and shocked they seemed.
But maybe they know exactly what's going on and acting confused and shocked is just their cover for being embarrassed.
