They'll give examples like the need to go to the bathroom when you'd rather be doing other things, etc. like when you're on a date or something.

I think that's a shallow way to look at it.

Yeah, it's disgusting and ridiculous that we have to expel our bodily fluids and whatnot, but I see it as serving a different purpose.

Interruption by bodily functions is a measure of time.

It's a catalyst. 

It comes along and changes the dynamic.

It allows for a situation to be interrupted and for new situations to arise. Or to interrupt a situation and change the dynamics of that situation so as to have a different experience.

It gauges time... it facilitates a 'wild card' and allows for chance.
