On a romantic, two people who love each other la-de-da kind of fruity level, THAT is why you reproduce...
Because you want to see more of that other person in the world.
I've heard of people using reproduction as a tool of 'trapping' the other person, and that is an evil reason to reproduce with someone. Really bad shit there, wouldn't want to deal with that karma.
I've heard of women wanting to reproduce with a man because they love the man, but the love is essentially unreciprocated and they just want the child as a consolation prize... it's like a piece of the man that isn't going to leave them. It's psychologically warped, but yes it happens.
I've heard of people who 'accidentally' reproduced with somebody, and then because of the kid, they felt stuck in the situation... so instead of leaving, they ended up having MORE children with a person they don't even really love that much.
The way I see it, the only good reason to reproduce is because the other person has qualities you love and want to see replicated and put into the world. This can come in a lot of forms... but because of the selflessness implied in loving the other person's qualities/wanting to facilitate more of that in the world, I don't really think any of them can be bad.
So then I guess it depends on the quality of the people themselves. Take two people who are super warped, and instead of loving the other person's intelligence, they love the fact that they're really good at armed robbery or something. A desire to reproduce and introduce more of that quality in the world would be um, bad. But I bet there are some people out there crazy enough to actually want it.
That's where the duality of existence steps in... the light, the dark, the wrong, the right. That can't ever be helped. But at the core of it, when you're doing something 'selflessly', regardless of the duality aspect, in my opinion it's always going to be more respectable than something which is done out of selfishness.
