Yeah ive seen that the Dr who asked him to blink eyes to tell him if he is still alive. But it makes total sense brain death won't occur from instant guillotine until the cells die in the brain from no blood.

Any way you die you will still live for some time before you actually die. 50 BMG to the brain, freezing to death it doesn't matter. Until the electrons and protons completely separate there will be some element of living.
