That's understandable for the near term, but the Goolag/Faecesbook must eventually be completely broken to disempower the tech giants.
i would argue the tech giants are much less of a threat than the Clowns In Action or the Nut Sampler's Association. doesn't matter which site you use when they can sample ur nuts at major junctions.
If the tech giants are in bed with the alphabet agencies, they're a force multiplier for that threat.

Diaspora is a distributed social network made up of dozens of privately owned websites. You register on one "home" site, then you can follow and message anyone anywhere on the network. You can even run your own node if you have a hosting account.
I'd say that's the best of both worlds. You don't have to worry about who can access your personal info if you're the one who runs the site it's stored on.
