I don't think anybody was ripping off Gerry Rafferty because Glenn Shorrock's a Cancer and he says he was "Born in the sign of water" in that song, so I think it was an honest rap from him.
Yeah, I don't think they were ripping him off, and it probably does have a lot to do with the era and the New Age vibe that was in the air in those days. I just tend to notice patterns, similarities, etc.
