You cannot allow servants on gaurd duty to fall asleep . After all they are derelict in their duties and must be punished because they put masters family in highly vulnerable position. This occurred to my family as we were spreading the gospel of jesus in africa. My father had a servant that was expected to be a nightwatchman . The nights are exceptionally black and frightful in the rural villages so you must have a man watching out for men with devious intent , packs of hyenas or fearsome big cats.
On many occasions our servant fell asleep and was discovered snoring on the front porch. This enraged my father and meant the lazy man got punished in the morning before he was allowed to go home. Mostly he was just whipped 10 or 15 times with a shortened leather braided bullwhip. Lucky for him he wasnt treated like the guy in this story ...your crime is engraved upon your body
