Hmmm.

The quirky/strange movies were largely a product of the early 2000s as far as I can remember, and I thought basically all of them were total shit.

At least I noticed the trend started in the early 2000s, and that is when movies and TV entirely went to shit.

Not trying to be a douche, I'm just being honest.

I also thought Donnie Darko totally sucked.

Sorry man.

I should really have just like, not made these posts.

But it's impossible for me not to be totally honest about it.

I mean I thought Donnie Darko was...

Straight up fucking stupid, LOL!!!

Ahahahaha. Sorry.

The story was just dumb as shit, super pretentious, I fucking hated the bunny outfit, it was all cryptic and sought to be something it just wasn't.

I totally despise movies that intentionally make things all complicated and unclear...

Hollywood was been a total floater for decades, just flush it.

I guess I get what you must be implying, because apparently some people see some kinda redeeming qualities in that movie and I just see absolutely zero.

Here's the thing...

Dishonesty. I sense dishonesty out of movies (or anything) presented that way...

And I don't appreciate that.

I sense HOLDING BACK...

And there's never a good reason to hold back a message...

Basically prettymuch never.

You're either hiding or disguising something by holding back or confusing or making an expression cumbersome.

It's basically the devil's work and it can suck/blow me.

I like Mt. Rushmore.

I don't know or care if it falls into that category, I'm guessing it does.

i think i know what ya mean. it's quite possible that movie was cut in a certain way to hide truth, like eyes wide shut was.

Dude it's 100% weird AF that you mention Eyes Wide Shut...

I was literally gonna make a post on this thread like 5 minutes ago, totally at random mentioning how I always thought Eyes Wide Shut was pure and utter total garbage too...

But I didn't because I thought it would look way too much like I'm being surly but I'm honestly not.

eyes wide shut was actually a documentary disguised as fiction. when viewed in the proper context it is quite good. unfortunately they cut a lot out and edited it to obfuscate the truth, incidentally turning the movie into a strange mess. kubrick was too accurate and paid for that.

i can really only think of 2 movies that have freaked me out. Fire In The Sky, with the abduction and eye-needle part, and a certain scene towards the end of Naked Lunch. quite haunting... above even the Requiem For A Dream level.

reminds me of a few others of that era and type - Gummo, Kids, and Pi.
