I never really got it. I love the sound of the female voice especially when it's appealing to my ears.
The songs sung by girls don't always have "female" issues in them so you can't really call them "girly"
songs. I'm talking about the female vocalist pre-current era.
Listening to metal and crying cowboys is what "real men" listen to? Sounds kinda gay but whatever.
What kinda phage-T has this in their music collection and loves guns, 'murka and rock-n-roll!?!

Secondly...
TBH, I have actually seen it be mostly the opposite...
Dudes mostly (from my experience) prefer music sang by women.
I prefer only music sang by males, or best of all, music with no words at all.
There are very few female singers I actually like.

I generally prefer deeper voices. Plenty of female singers have deep voices though. Grace Slick being one of my favs.

I'm about 50/50 on this. I love the sound of female vocals.
But most of all, I have to like the "sound" of a vocal performer
in order to really listen to their music.
Take for instance, Megadeth. I love Megadeth. But I've never been
a fan of Dave's vocals. I just, they just don't work for me. Not hating on
Dave at all, he's a phenomenal musician! It's just that vocals really top the
song like icing on a cake and if you don't like the icing, then you gotta
do a lot of scraping. And I don't think Megadeth has a lot of instrumental
songs. Or instrumental versions of their whole catalogue.
I'd really love to add a female vocalist to what I do, my music thing.
They really compliment music that leans in the heavy/aggressive direction.
Some of my favorite singers are female, Kate Bush and Liz Fraser being two that come readily to mind.
Overall, guys prefer listening to songs sung by other guys because they can more easily relate to a male perspective. Moreover, as there's so much male-bashing in female songs these days, only a self-loathing soy boy would want to sing along with them.
