Blazing Saddles (1974) is one of my all-time favorite movies...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blazing_Saddles
It's outrageous, and in the current political climate, its days are probably numbered.
If you haven't seen it, you should watch it just to revel in the extreme political incorrectness.
That said, I'm sure you've all seen it...
What did you REALLY think about it?
Do you think it was over-hyped and never really all that great?
I'm curious.

Someday an early 2000s copy of it (unedited) will probably be worth like $500, if it's not illegal to buy/sell...

I wish I still had a hard copy.
I had it on VHS way back in the day.

I probably copied it from a VHS rental tape in the late 80s or early 90s. I used to copy movies at low speed to fit more onto a tape. The video quality deteriorated rapidly as a result.
I think I have it on Laserdisc now. Or at least I should.
They used to show it on network TV every once in awhile in the 70s. The farts were replaced with burps in the bean-eating scene. I don't remember if they edited out the N word back then like they do now.

I loved it! It was raucous and funny!
When people cease to be able to laugh at themselves, that's when it all goes to Hell.
There's edgy and "inappropriate" and then there's just hateful and mean-spirited.
'Blazing Saddles' was the former. Be a shame if/when they ban it outright.

A lot of people say comedy is dead...
That political correctness has killed it/made it unacceptable.
Seems like it's fine to crack racist jokes these days as long as white people are the punch line.
I loved Blazing Saddles because no one particular race was razzed, they made fun of everyone and it was outrageous in order to prove a point.
Maybe since Mel Brooks (a Jewish) is responsible for it, it won't get attacked...
I've wanted to raise the topic of Blazing Saddles for about a week now, but I always decided against it because I don't want to bring it to attention and have it be attacked as a result.
But I think it's important to put the word out and for people to grab a hard copy of this movie.

It's a wonderful movie, seriously.
It got me through a lot of sad lonely nights when I was a kid staying up late because I was always a night owl.
From the ages of 10-13 I had a very hard time being such a lonely, sheltered child who never had friends or got out of the house that much.
The good thing about my childhood was that I grew up in a really big building with lots of large rooms and halls to run around in. I literally used to ride bicycles and scooters in the halls... LOL!
Nobody cared, I did what I wanted.
I always had an excellent stereo system and when everyone was at work, I would run and skip and dance through the halls with the music blaring. Good music too. The oldies, the classics. SOME new stuff, but it had to be weird shit... like Type O Negative, or Tiger Army.
It was great.
In those years though, I was totally in love with Gene Wilder. Blazing Saddles got more late night plays, but I also watched Willy Wonka quite a bit. Young Frankenstein was also in my arsenal, but it wasn't really my fave.
After about age 13, I was over the sad panda emotions about being alone and whatnot... I took years upon years to build walls so thick and high that I really do believe are impenetrable.
I have never been lonely since.

I really did have an arsenal.
I spent about a year daily recording various shows on blank tapes. I had a closet full of them.
I was mad in love with Michael Landon and recorded as much Bonanza, Little House, and Highway To Heaven as I could.
I loved M*A*S*H so much that I actually bought every season on VHS with Christmas money. I may have had DVDs too, but I remember being very much against DVDs on principle... plus they were expensive at the time. I had a crush on Radar (Gary Burghoff was my first celebrity autograph) and of course I thought Trapper John (Wayne Rogers) was pretty damn hot too. I loved Radar far more though, and I really dug the fact that he slept with a teddy bear. At 13, I landed my own teddy bear from the Hallmark store at the mall, Mr. Happy who I've discussed, and he was named by my brother who thought it was funny. I was also intrigued by Gary Burghoff because he had a deformed hand which they usually were able to hide in most scenes.
I had a large collection of The Twilight Zone and Barney Miller as well. I was terribly smitten with Dietrich (love that name), portrayed by Steve Landesberg.

Of course I was madly in love with Rod Serling too.
I devoted quite some time to Michael Landon... watching him, collecting hundreds of photos of him, posting on the Bonanza World forum (2003).
But if I look back at all my crushes, if I could just choose one, it would be Steve Landesberg...

True. Dire Straits' record label replaced "faggot" with "maggot" in "Money for Nothing." Then they offered to replace everyone's old version with the new version.
I'm guessing not too many people went for that.

Oh, I loved M*A*S*H! I've seen every episode at least once.
My mom was a nurse. It was her favorite show. She also had a funny book, which I read, called The House of God by Dr. Samuel Shem. Years later, most of the plots and jokes in the book were stolen by a sitcom called Scrubs.

The first generation DVDs were horrid. Very poor color depth for a shiny new hi tech format. I wondered why anyone would prefer them over Laserdisc.
