I got very cold and decided to start wearing a fur coat...
For me, it's an easy work around when it's just a still image...

I've just never seen them commit this heinous atrocity with a gif before.

I'm willing to bet ffmpeg can convert it to a usable format.

Yeah if you Google "I FUCKING HATE WEBP IMAGES" (lol) a lot of results come up of people talking about how much they hate it and trying to figure out how to unfuck it all.

CTRL+U and search for .gif in the code...

It gives you a direct link to the image which then will save as a gif...

I use that trick a lot actually, but never had to do it for this before1?!?!

Pretty sure you couldn't do that on a smartphone though...

So I think this is all just the slow progression of a totalitarian takeover of the internet.

The totalitarian tip-toe.

Possible alternate method if you can't find a direct link to the GIF:

1. Use imagemagick to extract the frames from the webp file as individual PNGs.

2. Use ffmpeg to build an MP4 video from the frames.

I'll test this in a bit to make sure it works.

Actually...

Since you have a Windows 7 box (you lucky bitch), you could make a true GIF89a file.

1. Extract the frames as GIFs using imagemagick.

2. Download Paint Shop Pro 7 from oldversion.com and install it. It comes with Animation Shop bundled. You can use that to build a GIF animation from the frames. That's how I made our friend Casanova.

If the free trial expires, you can reset the countdown by deleting a registry key.

There's also a site that I use A LOT when it comes to creating/editing gifs...

https://ezgif.com

I wonder if it would accept a jacked up WebP link for conversion...

Yup, it works at least for that extension.

Whoever runs that EzGIF site is doing the Lord's work.

I saw that too. There's so much cool stuff in most Linux distros that I do things locally whenever possible though. Free websites often start requiring registration once they build an audience. It's good to have your own resources.

Yeah I have my ways of doing it with various software, but I'll take the easy way whenever possible.

Actually, Part 2...

You only need one imagemagick command to do the whole thing:

convert input.webp output.gif

One and done.

I understand. That's why I go the extra mile to make myself as... erm... accessible as possible to you.
