How birds have sex...
#1
Hmmm
I've been confounded lately about birds and how they have sex.

I've looked into it... apparently one bird stands on top of the other bird and furiously rubs its tail feather on the other bird's tail feather.

I have been unsure about how this is effective. Apparently, birds have one hole, under their tail feather, which slightly protrudes around the edges during mating season.

Upon learning this, I figured the birds would back up to each other and rub their holes together to make the exchange. Alas, that is not how it's done and I find myself astonished that birds are able to reproduce so prolifically when they are rubbing the tail feathers together instead of the holes.

Yeah, it seems a little hard to imagine how that works!

This article explains the grizzly details...

Personally I think bird sex is some of the more clean and respectable mating in the animal kingdom.

This is what I thought birds did...

I was disillusioned, but not disappointed necessarily. It makes more sense to me.

But I appreciate the bird sex because it's another one of nature's exemplifications that males should always be on top during sex. Anything else is a heinous perversion!

I found myself still confused, so I decided to take awhile and look at some photos.

What has really stumped me about this whole thing is effectiveness. What are the odds of success for just rubbing tail feathers? It seems like such a stretch.

Luckily these pictures helped me understand, as you can see, those birds are doing it right:

I have no idea what's going on right here, but it looks like it could work eventually:

Super proud of these birds, seems very effective:

But then I looked up penguin sex.

Now there aren't very many pictures of penguin sex, but from what I can tell, it looks even more impossible and ineffective than regular bird sex:

If the penguin on top were to angle himself effectively, he'd fall over backward.

I am not attempting to disrespect or second guess nature... I'm just saying, I think it's a miracle birds ever reproduce.
