Whenever I see a cute animal, I start chuckling loudly and talking in a particularly obnoxious and impaired manner. I make stupid noises.
That's the effect cute animals have on me.
I have also noticed I react the same way to plants and flowers sometimes. I'll hold the leaf or petal, chuckle and say something in admiration of the plant using my "impaired voice".
Animals... it's so hard sometimes not to want to grab them and squeeze them. I think we've all gotten in trouble at one time or another for petting the cat too hard. I've never had any complaints from the animals though, just other humans who don't understand my glee and rapture.
Sometimes when I see birds, all I can think about is putting them in my mouth. Not to bite them, but maybe just "gum" them a little bit and get them all slobbery. Sometimes I feel the same way about other small animals as well. I used to be able to fit my childhood pet cat's head in my mouth up to his ears. He loved me and was never mad. I know he understood.
Most animals do understand the strangeness and quirks of humans. Thus why they're such perfect, non judgemental companions and confidants.

I just wonder why some of us react to animals or other perceived 'cute' things this way.
What is it in our programming that makes us react this way?
It's like there's a high that happens.
Some kind of release of a 'happy' chemical.
That's why I always recommend chronic sad sacks who are all obsessed with themselves and can't get out of the self-imposed pit of despair go and work with animals. Focusing on something other than themselves, and something cute and innocent like animals will cause a release.

But you gotta go work with animals the right way.
Like...
Not at pet shops where they're all caged up and inherently unhappy because of that.
Not at animal shelters where you have to kill them and shit.
There need to be other kinds of places where we can go and take care of animals.
And be with animals and commune with animals.

I really am intrigued by the urge to put small, cute animals in my mouth.
I think it's so natural to want to do this. It's not about biting or eating the animal. That's what's so weird about it.
I consider the mouth for eating and consumption. Where does the urge come from? What does it mean? It reminds me of something playful that a dog would do. Or the way babies are always putting inanimate objects in their mouths. Maybe that's where it stems from.
The more I think about it, that's EXACTLY what it's like.

You know on Friday I was delivering dry wall and this staffy dog took a chunk out of it. He was the cuttest little happy man but it was like "This is my fucking house anything comes in here is mine". Then the builder puts him outside, then he eats through the pot plant they put in front of the dog door. Then he is in the house again eating the dry wall wtf? We had to stack a vaccum cleaner and huge bricks in front of that shit just to keep him outside. This dog was like a person.
