So the question is who wrote the song for the kid and why is the nostalgia for LONG gone days of old apparently being popularized?

The songwriter was full of shit too. People who remember hearing Don McLean's "American Pie" on the radio when it first came out (my parents' generation) would never use smartphones as their primary historical point of reference. They lived a lot longer and experienced a lot more without smartphones than they did with smartphones.So, as dumb as it was put those words into a youngster's mouth, it was even dumber to write them in the first place.
