So let's talk about The Beatles...

Music
Longtime Beatles fan, been rockin' the Beatles since childhood, typical story.

Except there may be a few deviations from my story that are less typical than most people's... ROFL!

I acquired Beatles 1 in the early 2000s having already been in the depths of Beatles obsession with The White Album and Abbey Road for sometime.

Beatles 1 is probably the best collection of their most popular material. I loved it so much that I slept with it playing on repeat all night... yeah, that's right. I did. How long did this go on?? I don't know... at least a month.

After being obsessed with that particular collection, I went on a Hard Day's Night bender and watched the movie many times and really enjoyed the album. Songs such as "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" & "And I Love Her" still oddly remind me of Christmas 2004 and the bitchin' outfit I wore.

Then came my enjoyment of the Let It Be album... never really my favorite, but had some legendary songs. "I Me Mine" was always my favorite.

Ultimately my Beatles obsession culminated in a most memorable season of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" being the soundtrack to some of the most enjoyable times in my entire life. It was 2005.

I'm going to rank my favorite (original) Beatles albums, but first I'll say this...

I consider the early Beatles to essentially be a different band than the later Beatles. Of course, they ARE the same band. Their sound is still unmistakably unique to them. However, let's face it, they REALLY changed. They went from suits to hippies. There was a dramatic change. And for that reason, my tops are mainly going to consist of ties, as I could never choose between these distinctly different Beatles eras.

1. Abbey Road / A Hard Day's Night

Ah well... even when it's a tie, one always has to be addressed first, doesn't it? Perhaps a tie really isn't a tie after all. Alas, Abbey Road is in my opinion the all-time most iconic Beatles album. There isn't a single song that is 'skippable'.

2. Sgt. Pepper / The White Album

Yes, Sgt. Pepper does come before the White Album in my tie. In fact, The White Album was nearly kicked down to the third position... unthinkable, really. Why would it rank that low?? Well, in my opinion there are some pretty damn skippable songs on The White Album. Unique and unforgettable? Sure. Listen to them casually? LMAO, nah. My favorite songs from the White Album, and the only reason it has a place at number 2, are "Long, Long, Long", "I Will", and "Cry Baby Cry". Of course while I think we can all agree there were other legendary songs (inarguably) including perhaps their greatest song of all time ("While My Guitar Gently Weeps") present on the album, "I Will" tops my personal list and I choose it for its uplifting quality.

As for Sgt. Pepper, my favorite is "A Day In The Life" with "Lovely Rita" being a close second. Of course "Within You Without You" is an honorable mention for its musical uniqueness alone. "When I'm 64" was cute too. Okay okay enough.

3. Rubber Soul

Yeah. That's right. Rubber Soul, with no tie. "Let It Be" doesn't go here. "Help!" doesn't go here. "Revolver" doesn't go here. "Magical Mystery Tour" doesn't go here (shoutout to Strawberry Fields Forever). Nope. It's JUST Rubber Soul. Why? Because Norwegian Wood.

Rubber Soul stands alone in third place because I think it was the first Beatles album that hinted at an evolving band... a deeper Beatles was about to emerge. The Beatles were about to go on a trip, and on the other side, they would later gift the world with what they had understood. Their final albums were the arrival back, settling in, and reflecting upon that trip.
