People are already rolling over and doing exactly what the "experts" and "authorities" tell them to do.
I was in Lowe's today buying mandevillas and begonias to plant in the hanging baskets on my front porch because I'm not quite the artless brute teh interwebz make me out to be, and the man came on the loudspeaker talking about "social distancing" and all the other standardized coronavirus buzz phrases, sounding all the world like a propaganda ministry spokesman drumming Party mantras into the proles' heads everywhere they go.
The other day, my neighbor recounted a conversation he'd had with someone who was fearful that the government was using the pandemic as a pretext to take their guns. He told the guy that if the government wanted to take his guns, they'd shut off the electricity in August when it's sweltering in Louisiana, and within three days he'd be begging them to take them. Which is probably true. Most Americans are soft and weak.
