You're not the first to point out the Biblical deity's apparent narcissism and fragile ego.
There's a reason for it, namely to encourage us to project tendencies such as wrath, jealousy, and basically every other trait God reserves for Himself, onto an external "other" instead of internalizing them.
Religion is meant to prevent ego inflation, or hubris. God's aim is not to subjugate us, but to liberate us from vices that hinder our spiritual growth.
