It wasn't my idea to get a cat.

My stepmom's sister and daughter-and-law told me I needed to get a cat because the house had mice.

I didn't even get to pick or name my own cat. My stepmom already had one lined up for me. I was wary of that scenario from the outset. You have to get a cat when it's a small kitten and raise it yourself. Yanking a cat from an established home and putting it in a new home seldom ends well. She didn't know all of this because she's not a "cat person."

Nevertheless, it's her way or the highway.

And I still haven't seen the first fucking mouse in this place.

In hindsight, it looks like another ploy to get me leveraged so I wouldn't be able to just throw my shit in the car and leave. But since I took on the responsibility for Elvis's welfare, I had to take him to the vet. I couldn't let him die a slow, agonizing death with a gaping, stinking hole in his chest. Having thrust this responsibility upon me herself, you'd think she'd understand that. But no.
