Because the nature of the universe is electric...
I think that a great electrical calamity on a planet could kill the (electric) core.
Some people believe the great scar on Mars was caused by a plasma discharge...
I think it's possible that an electrical discharge of that magnitude could disrupt the electricity of the whole planet and that it could potentially kill the planet's electrical core.
But that is just my personal opinion/theory.
