A sleeping cocoon has to be made of material that is thick enough, yet lightweight, and preferably something that could dry fast or wouldn't matter if it got wet... i.e. no cotton stuffing in it or any BS like that. This is solely to serve as a barrier.
You could make it multifunctional... store all your stuff in it, strap it on. At the end of the day, take it off and crawl inside with your bags.
So it's basically like a glorified tarp with a zipper.
