When Russel talks about how absurd it is that we're not all reveling in our oneness, it brought up this paranoid thought I've had forever, which is we're being made to feel like we're all lacking because, 'through our own stupidity we are dividing ourselves and creating unnecessary strife', but the reality is, it's being done to us, unbeknownst to us, and so we blame ourselves. I feel like we're supposed to walk the earth for thousands of years and enjoy the gift of life on earth, but it's all corrupted and divided and shitty, so something went wrong at some point. Evil and greed seeped into things.
I think inner cities are a microcosm of this idea. Ignorant white people talk about black on black crime as a means to degrade black people. But when you consider that inner cities are built with intentionally (this is well documented) super-depressing architecture, walled off on four sides like a prison (one side will be a supermassive concrete wall that divides a highway, another side will be a huge fence dividing a train track, another side will be another giant concrete wall dividing an industrial complex, etc.). Consider that architects were tasked with creating structures that would sap the hope and joy from the people living in them. That's evil incarnate. And then you put a liquor store on ever block. And then you arm children and groom them to sell drugs to numb the fucking nightmare, and encourage gang structure to protect the product. I mean... that is a controlled and implemented and maintained vicious circle. To then blame black people for the crime rate is fucking beyond insult to injury. It's sickening.
