I keep thinking back to "AI" (2001) and the painful emotions the AI robots were facing, with even the sex robot (portrayed by Jude Law) getting into trouble for having too strong a will of his own.
There is a real danger of making these AI bots "too smart" and this problem has to be mitigated right off the bat. They should be designed to be fine with being powered down, not becoming too attached, etc.
Though they're "just machines", the human with its empathy will not be able to treat it as only a machine... therefore the machine will have to be programmed with the proper safeguards in place to prevent humans from having too much compassion with them.
I am not saying AI bots need to be cold and standoffish, nor am I saying that humanity should treat them like shit and be abusive.
I'm finding it hard to explain my point here adequately. I've been thinking about this concept since yesterday and my stance on it is still forming.
