You know, I was thinking...
When Elon told Grimes he was going to Mars in like 10 years, she said to make it 20 instead because she wanted him to be around for her and the kids or whatevs...
I think that's really interesting.
When the whole thing started out, it's not as if Claire actually WANTED to reproduce...
It was a hard decision for her to make, and a very weird position for her to find herself in.
So going from that, to wanting some semblance of a romantic union with somebody is pretty mind-bending...
But it's adorable. It's really adorable how she wanted that and maybe even vaguely expected that he would go along with the idea.
The idea of knocking back Mars another decade.
I think really, Grimes shouldn't have expected that at all because it's Elon fucking Musk, of course he's not gonna be deterred from his obsessive goals. It goes against who he is.
But at the same time, it suggests that either Claire was simply naive, or she has opinions about the true possibilities of this space mission that she just doesn't share publicly.
I'm guessing it's the latter... I'm guessing that she thinks the idea is ridiculous, at least as far as how fast it's being proposed as achievable. Maybe she thinks it's just a death mission. Who knows what she thinks...
She's clearly decided to be Team Elon and go along with the space plan publicly, and I appreciate that because at least it's supportive. Look, it's obvious that Elon's in it to win it and nothing/no one is gonna put the brakes on the situation.
It's for the best that she just be supportive.
But it's such a bizarre sci-fi world we find ourselves living in now... I didn't see this coming.
