Because of reruns though, it might be a continuing thing.
Back in the early 2000s when I was obsessed with Michael Landon/Little Joe on Bonanza, I frequented a forum called BonanzaWorld.
Each male character had his own subforum where the women would hang out and obsess on him.
There were girls ~10 years older than me who were totally obsessed with Little Joe. A lot of the women who were into the other male characters seemed to be a bit older.
But there were other fairly young chicks there obsessing on these characters from this 1959-1973 TV show.
So I think as long as reruns are a thing, there will still be younger generations developing an obsession with Marshal Dillon for example...
But as time goes on, fewer and fewer members of the younger generations will even be into classic TV, which will whittle down the instances of idealism toward these characters.
It's fascinating to me.
