"Gunsmoke" (1955) - Review & Commentary
S12 E20 - "Old Friend"

00 looks like shit done went all sideways in this small Arizona town.

50 what, does this old guy wanna be the new marshal or something!?

13 "Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player!"

20 "I'll tell you somethin'... us Haggens don't never eat no fish unless he's got his head on it, or how do you know it ain't a mermaid?"

00 "That's a baby mermaid." ... "I didn't say it was, I said it could be!"

16 I do agree though... I love eating grilled fish with the head and the eyes on there!

40 dude OMG... do you think the writers on Gunsmoke started experimenting with LSD in the late '60s?!!!!!! I think they did.

35 newcomers don't know what to think about Festus... his charm disarms the bad guys and makes them do and say things they shouldn't.

14 before I started watching Gunsmoke, even with as little as I knew about it, I ALREADY knew Festus was the best. He's the best "Non-Marshal Dillon" character in the show. However, Miss Kitty/Amanda Blake was the only one that I had any real knowledge of prior to watching. For this reason, I think Miss Kitty is the most universally recognized Gunsmoke character, and I bet a study/polling of the population would prove it. Festus is close behind though.

12 way to not be obvious, bro. Lmao!

27 "Mr. Haggen, how do I know I can trust you?" loooool, seeeee.

06 do I sense a connection between Miss Kitty and this super suspicious Masters guy?!?

40 so he's an old friend of the Marshal's!!! *rub hands* They're trying to make us think dirty thoughts!!!

07 OHHH, this guy's a MARSHAL TOO!!! Bahahaha, I forgot that part!!! Wow man, Kitty does have a type. That doesn't help me be any less aroused.

47 yeah, Festus is attractive and lovable, I'm totally into him and I think he's super sexy. But I have a love for Marshal Dillon that just can't be beat. The two of them are different. I guess it's kind of like having multiple pets... you love them all equally, just in different ways!!!

10 "May they always be friends," and Matt was the only one who thought it was super weird.

20 well that turned serious real fast.

56 so now he's defending Kitty's honor eh?! He's really taking his liberties around Dodge.

50 I just noticed his badass green and black checkered shirt... it reminds me of The Matrix.

36 "Burl, ya seem a little edgy."

38 you know the furniture/undertaker guy has the fanciest looking store in Dodge. It must be super nice in there.

06 this Cheeno guy looks familiar. He kinda reminds me of Salmaan Peerzada.

13 "You gotta fool with everything in a skirt just to prove you're a man!" OOOHHHHOHOHOHOHO my DAMMNNNN.

16 Willa has a very nice honey blonde hair color.

18 "All I try to do is file off the rough edges once in a while." The way he says that, and the innocent smile afterward... so humble. It was adorable.

24 Delphi Lawrence looks MAYBE 5 ft. tall in this scene... Fritz Weaver was 6'3" according to IMDb.

30 hardcore villainess vibes with her character.

40 yup, there it is.

12 this guy is fuckballs hot. Prove me wrong. Look at those eyebrows.

55 you know what... these two are almost like the 'Matt and Kitty' of that Arizona town. They're like Matt and Kitty if they had both gone wrong somewhere along the way!!!

28 oh this guy is fucked now, and that poor fella was just trying to bring slutbag her dinner!

36 he just backhanded a bitch!

57 he sorta looks like a cross between Hugh Grant and Seth Meyers.

26 you could tell he was proud of himself for how smoothly he put out that fire.

56 Thad is so fine... mmm, my God.

45 look how sexy the Marshal is... https://i.imgur.com/xRy5czi.png

54 Matt does need to get the hell out of the street though, this guy is right.

10 oh shit, it's about to go down at the Poppy Hotel!?!?!!

50 they REALLY nailed the sweaty look on this show... the makeup artists probably used a spray bottle on fine mist.

58 they're pulling some hardcore hillbilly Houdini shit with Festus lately. I don't even know how I feel about this. Maybe that's the reason for those shit-talking articles from back in the day always hating on him. Apparently there was a "question" of whether his character was ever truly accepted by the audience.

It had to be propaganda... nobody doesn't like Festus! But I've seen a lot of articles from back in the day that shit-talked the Gunsmoke leads... especially James Arness.
