You could tell it made her sad to say she's an atheist... nobody WANTS to end up feeling that way. But when all you see out of people is selfishness and evil, and you never see them get their just dues for it... what other conclusion can you really draw? This world is satan's playground... we are here to NOT fail the test. That's it.
The world will never be a "good" place. It will always be full of evil people who do bad things to neutral/good people, and the point of life is to NOT fall into the traps, and NOT cause suffering for yourself and others.
Suffering is inherent in ALL life... the test is to not cause more than there already naturally is. Do no harm... to yourself, or to others. It all starts with doing no harm to YOURSELF. They will tell you that you have to "lose your ego" and they'll tell you it's all about "service to others"... but no. That's a trick.
Devoting your life to other people brings suffering upon yourself, and that's what they want. They WANT you to be a slave. So the test starts with you. Do no harm to yourself, do no harm to others... the first way you go about achieving this is to never get involved with people. There is absolutely no benefit whatsoever.
