The biggest gripe I see repeatedly mentioned is that the title was not appropriate for the actual content of the book. Apparently, people wanted to FINALLY get some insight from one of the most prolific songwriters of all time on the PHILOSOPHY of songwriting.
Somehow, they find this book lacking in PHILOSOPHY...
To me, the book is almost solid, 100% philosophy.
What is philosophy??
Well, historically, correct me if I'm wrong, it seems to be a bunch of dudes and a few chicks pontificating on WTF they think the meaning of everything is.
So I fail to see any lack of "philosophy" in this book.
I guess people wanted Bob to really spell it out syllable by syllable and explain once and for all the mathematics of how he writes.
Well, that's never gonna happen. It's not possible anyway. It's like expecting somebody to explain existence itself, the origin of life, the step by step processes that have lead to what we see today in cold, hard scientific terms that an insomniac could fall asleep to...
It's expecting way too much, and I dunno why anybody would want that out of Bob in the first place.
