Man that's just such a supremely fucked up thing to say to a kid, really weird and inappropriate behavior...
"Hey kid, I totally invalidate who you are, and I'm just gonna project my own warped wishes and perceptions onto you."
How awful.
I've always figured there had to be some kind of weird abuse or at least borderline abusive treatment of Bob in his childhood, considering how he left home as soon as he could and went on about his life as if he didn't really have any history.
Seems like he did his best to become somebody else and separate himself from the past.
Who knows what else went down when he was a kid.
