That's for sure what happened.
Bob was just lonely, and he was getting old.
He probably saw it as a decent chance to have *somebody* in his life on even a vaguely romantic level.
The fact that she was from the UK is probably what ultimately swayed him into involvement.
Just learn to be alone, people, my God, it's not that fucking hard.
When you make choices out of loneliness and desperation, all you do is (potentially) fuck up your life.
I think neediness should be added to the list of biblical deadly sins.
