I've been turned on to the generic vs. name brand situation for YEARS.
It never fails that WalMart brand is better. But I don't think it's ALWAYS true that the products are made by the SAME manufacturers with the SAME techniques and I'll give you an example...
Oreos.
WalMart's Oreo knock off is precisely one million times more delicious than actual Oreos.
There absolutely is a difference.
The WalMart toaster pastries are massively cheaper and far better quality, more sturdy, better flavor than Pop-Tarts.
The only other generic brand I have a lot of experience with is Food Lion brand.
Food Lion's bread is the best bread of any brand, ever. Nothing else even comes close.
It's not a dupe for any other bread as far as I can tell... it's entirely their own creation.
In the early 2000s, Food Lion brand bread was NOTORIOUSLY HORRIBLE... it wasn't cooked all the way through, it was NASTY.
But somewhere along the line, they must have listened to customer feedback, and miraculously they turned it all around and created the absolute best store bought bread that exists.
Been the case for about 10 years now.
