I think maybe the key is to eat the big meal like ~6 hrs. before you're gonna go to bed, whenever that is. So maybe not load it in right after you get up, i.e. breakfast... but maybe half way through your day. I think the timing is dependent on doing the bulk of physical activities AFTER you eat in order to maximize digestion. You may be hungry enough for a snack a couple hours before bed but you wouldn't swamp your body with a bunch to digest too close to bedtime.
