My issue with it is...

If we're gonna argue that animals kill other animals for population control...

Then where's the efficiency?

What's the point of swatting a mouse around and clawing/biting it til it's mortally wounded and eventually dies?

That's not fast or efficient, and therefore I find it sus.

If it was a fast process, it would make sense and I'd buy the standard explanation.

But due to the...

Bizarrely sport-like nature of the whole thing, well...

I gotta say, I think the truth is a little less innocent than mere population control.
