I'm gonna bitch a little. But first, the backstory --
So I'm a member of a weekly online writer's group. Been going a little over a month.
I really like it, and it's pushed me to "perform under pressure" a little better. The host
gives us a prompt and then we have either 20 or 30 minutes to write in any style to
that prompt. It's fun. Tonight, while great - had a downer moment. Of wokeness...
It was only the host and three of us members tonight. One member read her story
and it had a couple lines that spoke of sexual abuse - if I recall, it was a minor and
was a family relation. OK, pretty heavy subject matter but nothing to get upset over.
I didn't think anything of it, but after the person was done reading, the host immediately
addressed it - not in a shitty way, they were nice about it - but still, I think it's piss-weak
to be in an environment where "content warnings" are expected. Especially for something
as harmless as the story segment in question. Anyway, it just kind of deflated my umph
about the group and makes me not want to continue going.
I just think in a gathering of adults - people need to be able to BE ADULTS. And I'm not
saying "I piss on your safe space" but... I kinda piss on your safe space. ALL safe spaces.
Fucking suck it up, grow a pair and harden the fuck up already.
Life ain't fair - the world is harsh - and nobody really gives a fuck about your feelings.
I'll only concede as far as to say this - had the person taken it upon themselves to announce
"Hey, content warning" before reading, I wouldn't have thought "Omg, what's this bullshit?"
but it happening the way it did - and like I said, the host was nice about it - it still rubbed me
the wrong way. ESPECIALLY when the host asked "Is everybody OK?" THAT made me wanna
act a fool, lol.
The whole thing is done over voice chat and we mute our mics while writing/typing.
So there, I bitched. A little wokism pissed on my unsafe space. And I didn't care for it.
