How the fuck are we gonna explore anything more ambitious as Mars if we're capped under the speed of light like he points out later in the interview?? Come on now. But at least he was honest that Mars is basically just a hub and will never be a 'nice' destination like Elon tries to paint it with ideas like terraforming.
That interview basically solidifies the fact that they're not REALLY that interested in going to Mars longterm, this is more about what the CAPABILITY affords them. This is about EVERYTHING ELSE they'd be able to do.
Which is fine.
But the whole thing about people going nuts in space??
That's the most concerning thing by far, and you can tell that this is a HUGE concern for this guy.
I wonder if he has any deeper info about what's REALLY happening to these people when they go nuts in space...
Cuz these are the best and brightest guys (and women), PERIOD. They're THE BEST.
And THEY crack.
Why? There's gotta be a deeper reason than the freakout of being "far away" from Earth.
It's gotta be physiological, some kind of interaction between space energy and the human body that is usually shielded by being on the planet under the cover of the atmosphere etc.
I never knew there was a REAL basis to those space horror movies where the astronauts lose it and try to kill each other.
