Dude started in politics at 19, had his talent and charisma used by powers he likely understood only vaguely, and amassed way more influence than anyone had bargained for.
Then he turned 30... and the idea of him potentially having a mind of his own along with principles and that much political power was a risk they couldn't take.
Either that or some random wackjob got good with a rifle and shot him in the vocal chords of all places.
