The biggest problem with getting an RV is that there are restrictions on where you can park with it. Gas mileage is another drawback. RVs are classified as motorhomes thus the insurance etc. reflects this classification, whereas with vans you don't have to worry about that. And one thing you never do is tell your insurance company that you have outfitted a van for living... they may drop you entirely.

Vans can be outfitted with great accommodations if you're willing to take the time. So many how-to videos out there these days.
The idea of traveling is to not be in your vehicle. A camper encourages you to stay inside more than a van would. When it comes to traveling, the vehicle is only for sleeping and transport. The rest of the time should be spent outside of it.
