This year he faced trial over wrongful death suits about his girlfriend Cathriona White, who committed suicide in 2015. She had attempted suicide previously in 2012. Her family alleges she caught STDs from Carrey (herpes 1 & 2, chlamydia, hepatitis A) which caused her mental trauma and led to her suicide. Carrey allegedly had not informed her after he had tested positive, and continued to have unprotected sex with her.
I’ll admit... getting that many STDs from somebody is pretty terrible. Herpes, that’s incurable... but a lot of the population has it. Yeah, it’s too bad... but that’s life. You can’t kill yourself over some stupid shit like that. Chlamydia, that sucks. But it’s curable. Live your fuckin’ life. Hepatitis A?? That’s the worst... any kinda hepatitis is bad fuckin’ news. But Hep A typically clears up. It’s not curable, but it can go away. So... out of all those, hepatitis is the most serious and depressing. Still... no good reason to kill oneself, that is just ridiculous.
The family makes it sound like Carrey dumped her when she came to him with concerns that she had caught an STD from him, and just before she had gotten positive test results back. Even if that were true... that’s life. You’re dealing with an asshole. That kind of cruel, brazen shit is what people do. It hurts and you better get used to being fucked over in every capacity by your fellow man... learn how to deal with it, because it never ends.
The suits against Carrey are not warranted in my opinion... if it had been AIDS, then sure. He could be blamed for wrongful death. Otherwise... no. That is my opinion. I’m not saying he’s not a piece of shit or that he didn’t do anything wrong. I’m sure he did a lot of things wrong. But being responsible for her suicide? No, I don’t agree with that.
Rule of thumb... if you can still physically function, if your body can still transport you, if you’re not in unbearable PHYSICAL pain, then you have no business even contemplating suicide. Be a self-respecting, responsible person. Deal with whatever hand you’ve been dealt. Get whatever enjoyment you can out of life. If at any point it becomes physically impossible... THEN there’s a lot less blame on you if you end it. This is my opinion.
