When I was a kid my mom drank the diet Dr. Pepper's w/o sugar or caffeine.
She wasn't overweight or diabetic, she just somehow got onto a kick of drinking them.
If I were to ever run out of regular soda, I'd try drinking one of hers. God dang, they were nasty!
And I'd only get maybe 1/4 the way into the can before I'd come down with serious headache pain.
It was usually dead center of the forehead, but a few inches inward, so maybe right in the very middle of my brain.
The pain would also come in shooting strikes from the right side of my head, just above the temple.
Shooting from the temple inward. The kind of dull, bruising pain that makes you close your eyes.
After experiencing this 3 or 4 times I said "fuck that" when it came to diet sodas.
This was back in about 1989/90, I was 15. I thought "It must be what they put in there in place of the sugar that causes this".
Regular soda NEVER did this to me.
Oh and my mom now has dementia. Has had it for about 7 or 8 years now. It's gotten worse in the last 2 or 3 years.
She would drink 2 or 3 of those diet sodas a day. Everyday. So yes, I believe there's a connection.
