They are places of captivity, no less.

All very warped and wrong, on all accounts.

I agree with you in one respect, captivity is horrible.
But in another respect Zoo's keep extinct species alive, they actually breed them artificially so they don't cease to exist.
There is pros and cons with all things, zoos are just one of them.
