animals facing north

My dog and cat  have a strong tendency to face in certain directions   always in unison  .  Most times its north .  I was feeling kind of agitated  and was facing south  opposite  to them so i just turned and sat quietly  facing north with my pets and sure enough i started feeling calmness and much better .  Magnetism ?
